FAQ

What do I get?

Three endpoints: sitemap URL extraction with change detection, a normalized feed reader with new-items-only mode, and tech-stack detection. See the docs.

Can I try it without paying?

Yes. Call any endpoint without a key: 10 calls per day per IP (also capped per network and globally), smaller results, no monitors. On 429, respect Retry-After (resets 00:00 UTC).

How do monitors work?

Crawlwise runs them for you. Create a monitor with POST /v1/monitors (schedule + https webhookUrl). We run scheduled checks, usually within an hour, plus check-now on demand, and POST a signed change event. Checks with no change cost 2 credits (5 for techstack). You can still poll with ?monitor=NAME. Details in the docs.

Do you respect robots.txt?

We follow robots.txt for CrawlwiseBot; disallowed targets are refused and not charged. See for website owners.

I lost my API key.

Use key recovery. You prove you own your checkout email through Stripe's billing portal, and we issue a new key (old keys are revoked). We can never show an existing key again because we only store a hash.

My key leaked.

Rotate it immediately in the dashboard (or POST /v1/keys/rotate). All old keys and sessions stop working at once.

How do I delete my account and data?

Dashboard → Delete account (or POST /v1/account/delete with {"confirm":"DELETE"}). See what is deleted.

Billing FAQ

What's the difference between packs and plans?

Packs are one-time purchases. Nothing renews, and the credits never expire while your account is active. Plans are monthly subscriptions that renew automatically until you cancel. Each paid month adds credits, and plans give more credits per dollar and higher limits. See pricing.

I bought again and got a second account / new key.

Sign in first and buy from the dashboard: purchases are added to the account you are signed in to. A payment we can't match to an account is never lost; contact support with the receipt and we attach it by hand.

When am I charged for a plan?

When you subscribe, then every month on the same day. The credits for a month are added as soon as that month's payment succeeds.

How do I cancel?

Dashboard → Manage / cancel subscription opens the Stripe Customer Portal. Choose Cancel plan. You can also sign in at the Stripe billing login with your checkout email. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. You keep your plan and credits until then and aren't charged again. You can undo it in the portal before the period ends.

Do unused plan credits roll over?

Plan credits (Starter, Pro, Business) carry over for one billing period, then expire: credits paid for in one period expire at the end of the next period. We use plan credits before pack credits, oldest first. Pack credits never expire while your account is active.

My card payment failed.

Stripe retries automatically over about two weeks and emails you a link to update your card. You can also do it in the portal. Your existing credits keep working, but that month's credits are only added once the payment succeeds. If every retry fails, the subscription ends. Pack credits and any unexpired plan credits stay usable.

Can I get a refund?

All purchases (packs and plans) are final and non-refundable — including unused credits, change of mind, or mid-period cancellation — except where applicable law requires otherwise. Canceling a subscription stops future renewals; it is not a refund. We still correct our mistakes: duplicate payments, credits paid for but never delivered, and verified billing errors. Contact us with the receipt only for duplicate charges, undelivered credits, or billing errors. If a payment is refunded or disputed, the credits it bought are removed. See Terms.

Why is my account suspended?

Either your balance is negative (usually after a refund or chargeback when the credits were already used; top up to restore access), a payment dispute is open (access returns if it's resolved in our favor or withdrawn), or we suspended it for abuse (contact us).

Do I get invoices / receipts?

Stripe emails receipts for payments and keeps your invoices in the Customer Portal.

Troubleshooting

Symptom / error codeWhat to do
invalid_key (401)Check the header: Authorization: Bearer cw_live_…. The key may have been revoked or rotated. Sign in to the dashboard, or recover.
insufficient_credits (402)Top up in the dashboard. For sitemap calls we reserve 10 + max credits first, so lower max if your balance is small.
account_suspended (403)See "Why is my account suspended?" above.
robots_disallowed (403)The site blocks automated access. We won't fetch it. Not charged.
target_error (422)The site returned an error (often bot protection, HTTP 403/429), the DNS name doesn't exist, or the response was too large. Try the URL in a browser. Not charged.
no_data_found (422)No feed/sitemap found. Pass the feed or sitemap URL directly.
unsupported_url (400)Only public http(s) URLs on ports 80/443. Private networks, localhost and internal hosts are blocked for security.
timeout (504)The site was too slow. Retry later. Not charged.
rate_limited (429)Wait for Retry-After seconds. Reduce parallel calls to your plan's concurrency, and space out monitor calls.
internal_error (500)Our fault. Not charged. Retry with backoff, and contact us if it persists.
Paid but no key shownKeep the welcome page open; it updates automatically. You can reopen the same /welcome?session_id=… link later. If the key was already shown and lost, use recovery.
Browser CORS errorKeyed endpoints intentionally don't allow browser cross-origin calls (so keys stay server-side). Call the API from your backend.
