How it works

Know when a website changes. Without checking it yourself.

Five short steps, about ten minutes. No jargon, and nothing to install.

A websitea sitemap, a news feed, or its tech stack
Crawlwise checks iton a schedule, or whenever you ask
Your app gets a messageonly when something changed
  1. What Crawlwise does

    You tell us which website to watch. We look at it for you and, when something changes, we send a short message to your app. That message is called a webhook. It is signed, so your app can prove it really came from us.

    We can watch four kinds of things:

    • Sitemaps: the list of pages a site publishes. You hear about new, updated and removed pages.
    • Feeds: RSS, Atom or JSON news feeds. You hear about new posts.
    • Tech stack: the tools a site is built with (for example WordPress or Shopify). You hear when one is added or removed.
    • Checks on demand: ask for a fresh look at any time, not only on the schedule.
  2. Get a key

    A key is a password for your app. It goes in every request so we know which account to use.

    Your key is shown once. Save it somewhere safe, like a password manager. Lost it? Get a new one.

  3. Add your first monitor

    A monitor is one thing we watch for you. The easiest way to start is from your dashboard: press Add first monitor and paste the web address where your app should receive messages.

    Prefer code? Copy this, swap in your key and your web address, and run it. It watches our built-in demo feed, which gets a new post every 5 minutes, so you see a real change quickly.

    Add a monitor
    curl -X POST "https://crawlwisedata.com/v1/monitors" \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
      -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
      -d '{"endpoint":"feed","name":"my-first-monitor","url":"https://crawlwisedata.com/demo-target/feed.xml","webhookUrl":"https://your-app.example.com/crawlwise","schedule":true}'
    What do these fields mean?
    • endpoint: what to watch: feed, sitemap or techstack.
    • name: any short name you choose, so you can find it later.
    • url: the website, feed or sitemap to watch.
    • webhookUrl: where we send the message. It must be a public https:// address that answers with “200 OK”.
    • schedule: true means we check it for you. Scheduled checks, usually within an hour, plus check-now on demand.
  4. Receive and verify a webhook

    Don’t wait for a real change. Send yourself a free test message right now: press Send test webhook in the dashboard, or run:

    Send a free test webhook
    curl -X POST "https://crawlwisedata.com/v1/monitors/test" \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
      -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
      -d '{"endpoint":"feed","name":"my-first-monitor"}'

    Every message carries a signature in the X-Crawlwise-Signature header. Your app checks it with a secret only you and we know. If the check passes, the message is genuine.

    Show me the code to check the signature (Node.js)
    verify.js
    import { createHmac, timingSafeEqual } from 'node:crypto';
    // secret: from GET /v1/webhooks/secret. rawBody: the request body exactly as received.
    export function verify(secret, rawBody, header) {
      const m = /^t=(\d+),v1=([0-9a-f]{64})$/i.exec(header || '');
      if (!m || Math.abs(Date.now() / 1000 - Number(m[1])) > 300) return false;
      const expected = createHmac('sha256', secret).update(`${m[1]}.${rawBody}`).digest();
      const got = Buffer.from(m[2], 'hex');
      return got.length === expected.length && timingSafeEqual(got, expected);
    }

    More languages and the full message format are in the docs.

  5. Credits and billing, in dollars

    You pay with credits. 10,000 credits = $1 (with the $10 pack). You pay a little when we check and nothing changed, and a bit more when we find a change.

    about $0.58per month, at most, for a quiet feed or sitemap monitor
    about $1.44per month, at most, for a quiet tech-stack monitor
    $0.001per feed change found (10 credits)
    How is that worked out?

    A check that finds nothing new costs 2 credits (5 for tech stack). Monitors are checked at most four times an hour, which is 96 checks a day. So a quiet feed or sitemap monitor uses at most 2 × 96 × 30 = 5,760 credits a month: about $0.58 with packs, or about $0.44 on Starter. A tech-stack monitor uses at most 14,400 credits, about $1.44. If checks run less often, you pay less. When something changes you pay the normal price instead: 10 credits for a feed, at least 11 for a sitemap (10 + 1 per changed page), 30 for tech stack. Test webhooks are free.

    Ways to buy, all on the pricing page:

    • $10 pack: 100,000 credits, one time. Never expire while your account is active.
    • $25 pack: 262,500 credits, one time (5% bonus).
    • Starter, $19/month: 250,000 credits every month, about 43 quiet monitors. Unused Starter credits carry over for one month, then expire.

Questions

What is a credit?

A credit is how we count usage. 1 credit = $0.0001, so 10,000 credits = $1 with the $10 pack. Each check or lookup costs a few credits, and the exact price is shown on the pricing page. Failed checks are free.

What is a webhook?

A webhook is a message we send to a web address you choose (for example https://your-app.example.com/crawlwise) when something changes. Your app reads it and does whatever you want: post to a chat, update a spreadsheet, wake an AI agent. Each message is signed so you can check it came from us.

How often are sites checked?

Scheduled checks, usually within an hour, plus check-now on demand. Two checks of the same monitor are always at least 15 minutes apart. You can also set a longer gap (up to once a day) to spend fewer credits.

How do I cancel?

Credit packs have nothing to cancel: there is no renewal. To stop a Starter plan, open the dashboard and press Manage or cancel plan. It stops at the end of the month you paid for, and you are not charged again. To stop a single monitor, delete it in the dashboard. To close your account completely, use Delete account at the bottom of the dashboard (remaining credits are lost).

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are non-refundable except where required by law. We do fix billing mistakes: a duplicate charge is refunded, credits you paid for but never received are delivered or refunded, and a wrong charge is corrected. Read the full refund policy.
